Henry Villierme: Then and Now

Gray Morning
gouache
10 x 8 inches

As one of the 12 artists whose work was included in the seminal 1957 exhibition at the Oakland Museum, Henry Villierme helped launch the Bay Area Figurative Movement.

For many years his work was not publicly exhibited. But Henry Villierme continues to explore themes he established in his early work 50 years ago.

Richard Diebenkorn said that Villierme's paintings have "an instinctual understanding of that universal human activity in which colors are applied to a surface."
