End of Railroad Cut
oil on board in frame by the artist
14 x 8 inches
Jack Cassinetto lives and paints in the California Gold Country. He is a native of the area and has spent most of his life in the pastoral surroundings of the California foothills. His love of the California landscape is reflected in his paintings.
For the past 20 years, he has painted landscapes in the distinctive manner of the turn-of-the-century California tonalist painters. His unique style is a blend of old and new, guided by a love of shadows revealed by the changing light of day. He was influenced by such great California painters as Arthur Mathews, and his paintings clearly have the "early California" look.
All of his work is done with oils and most are painted on board. His frames, whenever possible, are antique. He spends many hours searching for frames at flea markets, garage sales and antique shops. He sometimes carves his own frames to enhance the mood of a particular painting.
